    Reach out and read Program

    Reach out and read Program

As a part of our efforts to help serve our community.ProviPediatrics has recently become a part of the national Reach Out and Read Program. Reach Out and Read is a non-profit organization which encourages parents to read with their children and help their children develop early literacy. Children who read with their parents have been proven to enjoy reading before bed as a nightly activity. And score three to six months ahead of children who do not read in literacy tests. This early start, beginning at 6 months and up to 5 years, helps prepare children for preschool where reading is an essential part of their curriculum.

Reach Out and Read has been helping children develop these skills since its start in 1989 at Boston Medical Center. The program now reaches all 50 states and 4.5 million children and families, providing 6.5 million books each year. The American Academy of Pediatrics has cited early literacy as a critical component in a child’s development and has recommended Reach Out and Read as a step to ensuring that each child is able to reach their full potential.

The Library of Congress also awarded Reach Out and Read its David M. Rubenstein Prize in 2013. Given to organizations who have “made outstanding and measurable contributions in increasing literacy levels and has demonstrated exceptional. And sustained depth and breadth in its commitment to the advancement of literacy.” The following year, The Clinton Global Initiative began to collaborate with the American Academy of Pediatrics, Scholastic, Too Small to Fail. And Reach Out and Read in order to further grow this program and reach more children across the United States.

This dedication to enriching the lives and education of the community’s children is something that ProviPediatrics shares. And why we decided to become a part of the more than 5,000 centers that make up Reach Out and Read. Please join us in helping to create a brighter future for our community and supporting our children. Books are available for free at your child’s next appointment at ProviPediatrics. See you then!
